A Whole Bloody Week !!

Been a busy week this one, finally managed to get myself a motorbike - going through the whole registration process couldnt have been a messier process.
Which also translates to it being a whole week since I last went jogging !!
I have been slacking on my photo project too :-( Skipped a couple of days in between. No excuses there - how can I not have 5 minutes in a day to take a picture !! :-S Not acceptable.

Not to skip 2 days in a row is definitely a top tip. After 2 days it somehow becomes "OK" to miss another day and another and another....and before you realise it a whole bloody week !!!

Daily routine shall begin from tomorrow.
Now I need to fit riding my bike into my daily routine...hmmm

Only skipped one day

In spite of trying to be as regular as possible, I have been skipping a day here and there, religiously following the "Do not skip 2 days in a row" rule. Definitely works

Completed a short 30 minute jog @ 5.5-6.0kph today
Need to bump it up to 45 minutes next week

And here I was thinking I aint impulsive !!

One minute I am sitting at the Gulf Bike Week listening to local bands rock the stage with some nice rock/alternative/jazz/blue tunes and the next im searching the local classifieds for some used cheapo drumkit !!

I've always been fascinated with percussions; drums to be specific. As a kid my Dad (who never had the time or the opportunity to pursue music) put me through almost all the musical instruments hoping I would pickup on atleast one of them. Except the drums ofcourse which he believed was not "distinguished". Anyhoo years later, when in uni I decided to pursue my passion and got my self a brand new Yamaha YD series dumkit in super sexy gloss black with the Zildjian rock series cymbals :-D. I had the time of my life playing it and it was probably the only instrument that I ever played which I managed to pick up so soon and teach mysself too. Owing to the noisy nature of the instrument practicing wasnt the easiest thing to do with family at home. A few months later it sat in the corner collecting dust. And a few years later during a move to a different apartment I sold it off to a kid (who is actually quite good now!!)

Watching those local bands perform got me and my buddy charged up and well, we figured we were still not too late. So fast forward 24 hours and we are at a small music shop (crammed with equipment) in some corner in sharjakistan !! Found a cheap drumkit which someone bought and returned a month later, tried it out(and realised i need a lotta practicing to do) and I walked out 750 D's lighter with a big FAT SMILE on my face :-D
Next stop: friends apartment where we put our New used kit :-P

Watch this space for some amateur recordings !!

Quick update on the training:

I finally took a stopwatch along with me to record the actual time spent jogging/walking.
22 minutes of jogging at a speed of 5.0kph(an assumption) - works out to about 2 km which is not too bad for 10 days of training
Wrapped it up with bicep curls 10kg X 3 Sets (12-10-8)

Too many easy days?

Friday is a holiday - so I decided to take an off-day and went for a really long walk instead.

Today was the last day of the Gulf Bike Week. There were some really really nice motorcycles out there, some crazy customs along with some crazy dudes !! Makes you wonder where these people live and if they only ever get out for 3 days in the year to show up for festivals like these !! :-|

Continuing with the unpredictable weather, today has been extremely windy, all that walking and sand in my eyes/nose/ears/mouth was a bit tiring. Got back home knackered and laziness caught up with me. I was in absolutely no mood to put on my trainers and walk out of my nice warm and cozy apartment into a bloody shamaal !! Somehow I managed to drag by butt out of the door and braved winds that were strong enough to uproot a whole bloody palm tree. It was definitely not my easiest jog with the sand and wind slapping me in my face, but I still jogged for about 30 minutes.

End result: I am bloody proud of myself. I can sleep well tonight :-D

Fatigue caught up with me

Not being used to any kind of physical exertion, the recent jog/stroll that I have started seems to have taken its toll on me. Instead of feeling full of energy and refreshed (like I did for the first couple of days) I started feeling more and more tired. I wasnt getting enough rest for my body to recuperate(maximum of 6 hours of sleep)

The solution: a good 12 hours of sleep to bring me back up to speed.
The cost: skipped a day
The result: Back on track :-D

I made sure to make up for the lost day with a more than usual intensive jog (jogged with a partner with much better fitness levels)

This blog should help me keep track of my training :-D

A day wasted

Ironically, right after I blog about a sense of accomplishment I skip my jog.
Instead of a jog, it ended up being a half-hearted stroll :-(

Sense of Accomplishment

A very good friend of mine once said to me, create a list of small goals (something like a to-do list) for every single day and try to strike out as many as possible.
The feeling of accomplishment that you get when you hit the sack at the end of the day is beautiful. Little Things - As simple as making sure you go for your daily jog, spend atleast 30 minutes reading about whatever interests you, play a music instrument, etc.
When you lay your head on your pillow at the end of the day and think about all the things you did you get this warm feeling on your inside. And believe you me, it is a bloody good feeling.

Thank you "Friend" (You know who are) - that is probably the best piece of advice I ever got.

I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes', I try to remind myself of this as often as I can.

Everything you do, every single decision you make, either takes you a step closer or a step further away from your goal. You either grow or you regress; nothing stands still. - Frank McGrath

Fatigued

After barely 3 days of jogging, im already fatigued. Says a lot about my fitness at this point !!!

Managed to drag my lazy butt out of the house and did a jog/walk for about an hour. Nothing too intense but I'm trying to make it a habit.

Photo project update
Just 5 days into it and I'm already running out of angles. Maybe I'll try taking pictures with different expressions, that might be interesting to look at.

Successfully Resumed

Taking a break when you are trying to start a routine/habit is probably the worst idea ever.
With laziness creeping in over the weekend, I was in absolutely no mood to get out of the house in the cold for a jog especially with the crazy winds we've been having of late.

Then I remembered 2 things that I've been trying to tell myself
1. Baby Steps. - The task is to just get into my running gear and shut the door behind me
2. Never skip two days in a row. - One day is fine. Two is bad. Very bad.

Albeit a short jog ; circa 30 minutes. Definitely refreshing and fulfilling.
Wrapped it up with 3 sets of bicep curls (12-10-8) and a self-portrait for the photo project :-P

Day Off

Yes I know today is only the 3rd day, but I being the weekend I will take the luxury of skipping my jog for a day.

My self-portrait photo project is underway with today being Day 3, but I have to get started on a "random photo a day" project.
So after getting a motorcycle license, I am having a tough time trying to decide which one to get.

Option 1:
Ducati Monster 696

Option 2:
Royal Enfield Classic 500

Option 3:
Kawasaki 250R

While the Ninja will help any beginner learn good riding techniques, the RE is more of a cruiser which will allow a much more relaxed ride while absorbing the surroundings as you thump by in its famous single cylinder design.
The monster can be described as "Sexy" - The original Naked bike which Ducati first produced in 1993. Its design still remains relatively unchanged over nearly 2 decades now. Perfect for trotting around town but you can also take it out to a track to push it to its limits !!

Look out for more posts motorcycles and riding ;-)

Day 2

Quick update

Day 2 - 1 hour of mostly brisk walking with a few minutes of jogging in between
Accompanied by a training buddy - so it was more of having a chat than listening to music

The extremely long day at work is to blame for the unmotivated jog. Nonetheless to not break a habit I just started I figured just getting out of the house with my trainers on is a step in the right direction.

Today is the weekend, so time to go parttayy !! :-D

Let's try this one more time..

Clearly the first attempt didnt go very well.

So my first and only post on this blog was nearly 3 years ago !! Holy crap that is a bloody long time !!
Im surprised that my blog still exists. I was half expecting it to be removed due to "lack of activity"

Anyway, so I have decided to get into shape. And as part of keeping me motivated I decided to blog about it - so I would be committed(?) I could have used FB or Buzz, but that would just be way too much committment !!! hahahahaha

First, I need to get into the habit of actually making it a point to get out of my house in running gear, even if it is just for a 15 minute stroll. That seems to be the hardest bit. I will try to make this a regular thing (5-6 days a week) and whether I make it or not I will atleast make a blog entry so I can actually keep track of my progress.

Here goes Day 1:
2nd February 2011 6 PM
Goal: Get out of the house for a stroll and maybe a short jog
Tunes: Filthy Dubstep Mix (Thanks to the kind soul on 8tracks who decided to share the tracks with everyone as a download) http://8tracks.com/zfranciose/filthy-dubstep

EDIT: First day - 30 minutes (split evenly between a slow jog (6.5kph) and brisk walking (5.5kph)
3 X Bicep Curls (12-10-8)

It rains for about 5 days the whole year in this part of the world and guess what? That's right, today is one of those days !! Fortunately it was just a light drizzle so I didnt have to postpone the jog.
